has it really been a year since my last post?

Despite the lack of posts, there has been a whole lot of sewing going on still around here. The following is a sampling of the last year's projects, but sadly, I have lost the drive to take pictures each time, so many things have gone out into the world without being documented. Some pretty fabric deserves recognition though, so a few pictures of some faves have been recorded. Here goes!
Toddler bib: Some roll-up totes

One of about 7 diaper bag orders I had this winter:

Another diaper bag:

And then there were the angry birds. They were too cute to resist.

the pigs!

the first three I made

Luke's Christmas present: a rocket. He begged me to make this for him as it was in my "One Yard Wonders" book and he would often leave it open to this page, hinting.

Attempt #2 at doll-making: Anna's Christmas doll. I think I'm done with dolls...
Wall-hanging organizer for my amazingly talented friend, Julia. We did a swap, a cake for an organizer. I love swapping talents!

Lilypad and friends November open house:

Rosenort Days, last summer: (I made the bunting for our church's day camp and it's come in handy a few times!)

hobo lunch sacks, so cute

taggy blocks

kid apron, cute kid not included

I should also mention that my sewing room has been much more enjoyable to work in, ever since my amazing sister-in-law Shannon helped me organize it. Here it is, before and after, on her blog.
Ahhh...some other favourite projects of the year include a shirt and a dress for Anna (maybe I'll get around to posting them sometime), a zigzag quilt that I'm still working on, now at the basting stage, a new style of tote that I think I'm going to start making, crochet-hook holders, hot pad and coasters...always something new on the brain! Now that I'm somewhat caught up, maybe I'll be more inspired to post projects here. No promises, the spring air calls louder than the sewing machine these days...

roman shades

Warning: Photo quality is garbage. Someone buy me a new camera.

This whole week I've had roman shades on the brain. I visited an amazing woman, who homeschools and happens to make gorgeous roman shades, so now I feel compelled to do at least one of the two things she does. :) I thought I'd start with the roman shades.

They're not perfect, I learned a bunch along the way, but all in all I'm happy with the end result and glad to FINALLY have window coverings for my kitchen. I just can't stop pulling them up and down, it's so fun.

projects from "one yard wonders"

I like to call this one a "taste of Sound of Music" as the green fabric used to be curtains, the ribbon is from my friend Jaimee, the will-be recipient of this present (tonight! - I hope she doesn't look here before then!!), who got it from her gramma I believe, and the buttons are from a big bunch I got for $3. All rolled-up. It's a notions, etc, organizer for my sewing friend.
Anna's quilt - not a "one-yard wonders" project, but I said in the last post I would put up a picture of it.
"Steggie" for our little buddy Isaac, for his 2nd birthday.

A paper organizer which I am loving! It's great to see our island again.
Okay, now it's time to play with the kids...enough sewing and blogging. :)

new baby, new projects!

Thank you Sheri-Lee for the kick in the butt to get blogging on my projects again. Since having Anna, my new baby girl who is 3 months old today, I have managed to do a few projects. The first is a set of 4 "taggy" blocks, each with a letter of her name on them. I had leftover fabric from the quilt I made for her, (which my mom actually quilted, I just sewed), and made a crib skirt and these blocks from the remaining fabric. I bought ribbon that I was planning on using for the next project, a quiet book, but in the mean time made these blocks and the ribbons matched perfectly. I must have a thing for exactly those shades of red, yellow and blue lately! The next project is a quiet book...something I have dreamed about making and finally had the energy to tackle...ironically, since energy is pretty much the main thing lacking in my life lately. However, having a project makes my days brighter so my quiet book days were dreamy, in spite of the fatigue of being a mom to a newbie. Here it is in its completion. What a lot of work! I will never try and sell these...I don't know what I'd charge, it took so long to do!

All closed up and ready to take on the road.
Curtains with grommets - my SIL Shannon gets the credit for this idea. And these are the bottoms of Jaimee's real curtains, so she can get some credit here too. I got this pattern from homemadebyjill.blogspot.com. She made a beautiful quiet book too and was generous enough to share a few patterns. This is partly a homemadebyjill.blogspot.com pattern, with a bit of Steve Krymusa thrown in. He recommended doing a pear tree with a basket, but Jaimee had this gorgeous apple fabric, so it's apples on a tree. And I found a cute bird so he got thrown in too. The apples and bird snap on and off and can be put in the basket, although the bird gets a little clausterphobic.Basket weaving! And finding a place for my ribbons. :) The bag/basket can hold the button flowers from the next page.Button flowers, counting beads and a ribbon butterfly. One of my favorite pages.Mailbox from homemadebyjill pattern. Rocket idea from homemadebyjill site, but Jaimee and I have this great rocket rascals fabric and it was perfect for this page.Match the Moose! They velcro on.The boys' favorite page for sure. These fish are buttoned on, can be "caught" with hooks and eyes, and then strung up on the stringer which snaps. What fun!Closet of clothes for the boy and girl on the next page.
Velcro boy and Velcro girl, with braidable hair. The boys love this page too, and Sammy always makes sure they finish by wearing their pyjamas. The lace-up football, to end things off. I also received a book called "One Yard Wonders" from my Julio for my birthday which was in January, and tackled one project from it so far. It's a wall hanging paper organizer...I'll post pictures soon. I can now see my island again which is kind of nice!

Lilypad and friends craft sale pictures

We had a great day last Saturday and a big thanks to all of you who came out to support the crafters! We had a good turn-out and already scheming our fall craft sale. Here are some pictures of the day. If you would like to personally contact any one of the sellers to purchase something still, let me know and I will pass their info along to you.

This is "Simply Kaptured Photography" by Stephanie, along with her fabulous baking which was so beautifully packaged...she even had samples for people to try. Her photography is beautiful and she has made some amazing cards, gift tags, and magnets from them.

Next we have "Bum Buckets" and "Sock Critters" by Hilori. Her diapers are so great and are very affordable...it makes going the cloth route so do-able. I highly recommend contacting her if you are at all thinking about doing cloth diapers for your little one. I hope to finally get it right round 3 and do the cloth thing, and have happily already purchased a set of diapers from her. I can't wait to have a little babe to put them on! Her sock critters are also amazing...those lips get me every time.

Next we have "The Button Jar" by Michelle. Gorgeous dresses and shirts from repurposed and new fabrics, not to mention adorable dollhouses and barns. I am always amazed at how she puts patterns and colours together...beautiful! I hear rumors of aprons on the horizon too...be sure to check out her blog! And finally, Lilypad! Jaimee and I worked hard to get a lot made before the sale and were both quite happy to see our creations go to good homes. We have now added shopping bags to our repertoire, not to mention burp cloths and fabulous crocheted baby loafers and maryjanes. Contact us to custom order a pair - you pick the colour and size! Our other popular items were slings (we had lots of mommies and tummies out and willing little babies to try out our slings), bibs, blankets, bags and diaper clutches. Another new item is personalized bean bags - makes a great, personal gift for children of all ages.

Keep checking out lilypad on etsy (see side link) as we will be posting new items shortly. I truly have a deeper appreciation for hand-made items and for the care and thoughtfulness that goes into each creation after this sale. There is just something so satisfying about celebrating each other's creativeness...thank you for sharing in that with us!
